What is the role of the Mobile Crane Operator and Slinger Signaller

A mobile crane is a wheeled, self-propelled vehicle with either a cable-controlled or hydraulic-powered telescoping boom crane. They can travel on the highways moving from site to site as needed.

The crane operator is responsible for operating the crane in accordance with training and the manufacturer’s instructions. They will lift, move, position and reposition loads following instruction from the slinger/signaller.

The Slinger/Signaller is responsible for attaching / detaching the load to and from the crane or lifting equipment and directing crane movements during the lifting operation.

The slinger/Signaller is the eyes and ears of the crane operator who can’t always see everything that is happening around them. They are responsible for giving clear signals or verbal communication to the operator to ensure loads are lifted and placed safely.

If you are new to lifting then this is the best course to start with, as you will start with the Slinger Signaller and gain knowledge of the hand signals along with the other roles of the Slinger Signaller, this will then help you when you do the Mobile Crane Operator course, as you will be able to understand the signals of the Slinger Signallaer.
