What is the role of the Vehicle Marshaller

The role of the Vehicle Marshaller is to control the traffic on and around a site. The aim is to avoid accidents with other vehicles, buildings, obstacles, and of course people. A Marshaller is there to guide the vehicles and their drivers with hand signals and awareness.

Pre Course Requirement

For the CPCS A73 Vehicle Marshaller training course, you will need The Health Safety & Environment test for Operatives is required or the higher tests of the Specialist Supervisors or the Managers & professionals (MAP)

This is a 45 minute touch screen multiple choice test consisting of 50 questions. This test can be taken at various Person Vue test centres though out the country, you can arrange your own test and locate your nearest test centre by clicking here.

Revision is strongly recommended for the Health & Safety Test; revision books, DVDs and downloads are available from CITB store.

If you are struggling to get a date for the health and safety test and your training course in imminent if you are training at Lancashire you can take the HSE test at the beginning of course. Please ask for details and we will guide you through what you need to do.

Course Content

Course Duration: Three consecutive days

Course Aim and Contents:

The aim of this course is to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills that will enable then to safely and competently act as a plant and vehicle marshaller on site in line with CPCS guidelines.

Topics covered during this course include:

  • Define the Plant & Vehicle Marshalls’ roles & responsibilities
  • Explore and analyse all relevant legislation and regulatory regulations
  • Carry out a work management traffic plan and identify proximity hazards
  • Prepare adequately for Plant & Vehicle movements
  • Maintain safe working situations
  • Conform with recognised and agreed site communication methods
  • Identify different types of site Plant & Vehicles, their limitations, and safe positioning
  • Understand the hazards of site Plant & Vehicles as well as stability factors
  • Ensure safe guidance of Plant & Vehicles on-site

Certification

Successful candidates will be awarded a Red CPCS Trained Operator card endorsed with the category CPCS Plant and Vehicle Marshaller A73
